Understanding My Body Type

Understanding My Body Type is a great question that you should be asking and learning. I know for me recently I was talking with some friends about how to understand my body type measurements and so forth. What I didn’t realize is that understanding my body type is super important to my diet and fitness goals. You might be asking how does understanding my body type help me achieve my goals, well it actually matters a lot and I am going to try to help you out with this.  There are 3 types of body types and I will talk briefly about them below.

1. Ectomorph

Ectomorphs stay lean despite hours in the gym, endomorphs struggle to shift their gut and mesomorphs pack on muscle with ease. Here are some of the examples. They are most of the time referred to as “Hard Gainers”.  The Ectomorph body is typically straight up and down. The Ectomorph is not naturally powerful and has to work very hard to get gains in the gym and have to have some dedication. They also typically have fast metabolisms and low body fat.

  • Delicate Built Body
  • Flat Chest
  • Fragile
  • Lean
  • Lightly Muscled
  • Small Shouldered
  • Takes Longer to Gain Muscle
  • Thin

2. Mesomorph

The Mesomorph has well defined muscles and large bones. The torso tapers relatively narrow and low waist. Some people would kill to be this type of body type. They are mostly muscular types. they are lean, hard, and naturally athletic, and gain muscle easily.

  • Hard Body
  • Hourglass Shaped (Female)
  • Rectangular Shaped (Male)
  • Mature Muscle Mass
  • Muscular Body
  • Excellent Posture
  • Gains Muscle Easily
  • Gains Fat More Easily Than Ectomorphs
  • Thick Skin

 

3. Endomorphs

Endomorphs are the larger, fatter types. They have a soft roundness and often have difficulty losing body fat. Endomorphs have a tendency for weight gain and slower weight loss, so this is why understanding my body type is important to know so you can achieve you goals.  If  you’re wanting to shed body fat just know what you’re up against and just keep pushing through daily and you’ll get there. These types typically respond better to high protein and moderate to low carbs, find it challenging to keep fat off after it’s lost. Their bodies are very unforgiving, so they must be more compliant to their nutrition and keep cheat meals to a minimum. Endomorphs must stay in motion to keep their metabolism revved up.
